Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? ~Mary Oliver
Therapy with Katie
Let’s talk about meaning. When we’re living in alignment with our deepest values- our heart story- vitality and clarity are with us. We can meet life’s challenges when we know that what we’re doing matters and that, at the end of the day, the world will be a little better- perhaps a little bit kinder, perhaps a little more beautiful, because we were here. Nobody else can tell you what your own heart story is; not your parents, not your boss, and not your therapist either.
My job is to create a safe place to assist you to talk about what matters most to you. You might want to talk about your relationships, or explore your identity, or talk about your job, or your sex life. And any of those places are a perfect place to begin. The amazing thing about uncovering your heart story is that you can start almost anywhere.
I use tools from a variety of areas and I work with my clients to determine which are right for them. We may explore mindfulness, drawing on the parts of self, solution focused conversations, or the art of mirroring. Sometimes the most important thing I can offer is to be a witness and hold space. I sometimes use tools from a type of therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. And, I start from a nature centered, wholeness based perspective.
I have a certification in ecotherapy, and have trained with the School of Lost Borders. I have a deep passion for nature based rite of passage work, and you will sometimes hear that in our conversations. I also really love to work with archetypes, stories, images, and council way tools for self-discovery and self-care.
My second degree is in women’s spirituality. I value an embodied love for earth, the senses, and personal sovereignty. I also value the integrity that comes from recognizing our interconnectedness in the larger web of life that we’re a part of, and I believe that when each of us dares to love ourselves, we become a part of making the world a kinder place for everyone. Also, I’m a feminist, a sex positive therapist, am kink and poly friendly, and am LGBTQA+ allied.
And all of this brings us back full circle to the question of meaning. I create a safe place for my clients to talk about meaning, belief, and life choices. The meanings you take and the choices you make are yours alone. Nobody can tell you what your own heart story is, but we are all in need of judgement free spaces where conversations about meaning can be had. I will respect your conclusions, your own choice of words, beliefs, and ways of knowing.
I invite you to a safe, creative space to explore your own heart story. Let me know if I can answer any questions, and let me know how I can help!
